Richard’s Porcelain Veneers Story

By admin on April 9, 2009

MALE VOICE 3: I had a consultation for porcelain veneers and came in and they did some molds. And then I came back and they fit some plastic veneers on I guess and everything was just like really stress free. It was not painful like I thought it was going to be. So that was pretty cool. I wore those for a couple of weeks, made some adjustments and came back and they did porcelain veneers. And now I have a good smile. Well before I didn’t smile. I didn’t smile for years. I had you know my teeth I had some root canals done and so they were discolored and of course being 46, I had aged quite a bit. So I just didn’t smile. And I didn’t realize I didn’t smile until I came and got my new teeth. It’s amazing. It’s just amazing the reaction that everybody.

Porcelain Veeners

DR. MARK SWEENEY: When porcelain veneers first came out in the early ‘90s, I was really excited because prior to that, we had had very few options for really giving somebody dramatic change in their smile. Porcelain veneers changed all that. Now we can give somebody virtually the smile of their dreams and it’s a fairly simple process. We image on a computer initially to give the patient a fairly good idea of what it is that we’re trying to accomplish and then we have the dental lab wax up that prototype of the final result. And then we do it right here in the office in temporaries initially so the patient gets a three week trial period to try their temporaries and make sure that is exactly what they want.

And many times we’re making changes to those during that three week period until we get them dialed in exactly the way the patient wants. And that way we know the final result is going to be exactly what we’re all looking for. Porcelain veneers are thin sheets of porcelain that are cemented over the natural tooth structure. Many times now a days with lumineers and durathin veneers, we’re able to give a fairly dramatic change in somebody’s smile with very little or no tooth preparation.

Zoom Teeth Whitening System

By admin on April 9, 2009

DR. MARK SWEENEY: Zoom whitening is one of the most exciting treatments that we offer at Austin Dental Spa. It allows us in a less than two hour period to give somebody a completely different smile. In many cases, we whiten people 10 shades whiter than they came in with. And it’s really exciting for the patient and for us to make such a change in such a short period of time. It’s painless. Its simple and it has dramatic results.

The Zoom whitening is a very simple process. Usually the way we do it is we take a shade, the color of your teeth before we start. We sit you in the dental chair. We take impressions so that we can make take home trays for you because we found that the take home trays although they’re not very effective for getting your teeth white and keeping them there, they’re great for maintaining the shade that we take you to during the Zoom whitening. We polish your teeth and then we apply a bleaching gel to your teeth. Every 15 minutes, that gel is removed and replaced with fresh set of gel and then there’s a blue plasma light that shines on that material and catalyzes the bleach material to penetrate your tooth. It’s very safe. It’s very effective and it doesn’t harm the tooth at all.

Dr. Sweeney and Cosmetic Dentistry

By admin on April 9, 2009

DR. MARK SWEENEY: Cosmetic dentistry is one of the most exciting aspects of modern dentistry. With the technology that we have available now days, we can give you the smile of your dreams. Practically anyone can benefit from some form of cosmetic dentistry whether it’s whitening all the way up to a full set of veneers. Every patient has a different goal in cosmetic dentistry. Some people want to look very, very natural. Other people want a full Hollywood smile. Our goals is to help the patient determine exactly what it is they want and then give it to them.

The Comforts of Austin Dental Spa

By admin on April 9, 2009

DR. MARK SWEENEY: I have always tried to make each patient’s dental experience a comfortable and comforting one. I know that’s not what you normally expect from a dentist or a dental visit, but we’ve always had warm blankets if the patients get cold we can wrap them up in. We’ve had shoulder wraps that are fairly simple little things that we started buying on the internet years ago. We can put in the microwave and warm them up, or we can put them in the freezer. We always keep a few in the freezer, especially in the summertime in Texas and if somebody comes in and they look a little overheated or a little frazzled, one of those things laid over your shoulders will just melt the anxiety and stress away in a matter of seconds.

A few years ago we also hit on the idea of hiring a massage therapist. I have four of them in my employ at this point in time and there’s always at least one of them here in the office and they wander through the clinical area offering hand and foot massages. We also have a warm paraffin dip tank that we offer to patients. It’s amazing to me still how much that melts the anxiety away just dipping your hands in a warm paraffin tank a few times and then just letting it set on your hands. It makes your hands feel nice and smooth. It improves the circulation and it virtually melts anxiety away.

We have made the decision many years ago that all these services are complimentary and we feel that its worth it to have these services available to remove the fear and anxiety that usually accompany these dental visits.
