Administrative Team
April
April joined the Austin Dental Spa team in March 2006 and is now the Hygiene Coordinator. She grew up in Ft. Worth and moved to Austin in 2001. April and her husband, Wallace, love traveling, camping, and all kinds of outdoor activities. Their Chihuahua, Sandy, loves going with them on all of their outdoor adventures.
Amanda
It seems like there is always at least one Aggie on our team! Amanda was born and raised in Ft. Worth and then attended Texas A&M University. Amanda says that it was the live music that brought her to the home of the Longhorns. Amanda likes to spend time outside of work supporting her husband’s country music band, shopping, and hanging out with her poodle, Bailey.
Tammy
Tammy (AKA Tall Tammy) is our West Coast California girl who was born and raised in Huntington Beach. She graduated at the top of her class in dental assisting at Orange Coast College. She passed her board exam to be a Registered Dental Assistant with a 98 percent! Tammy has also been an office manager during her dental career that started in 1989. That’s why she is a perfect fit for our Treatment Coordinator. As the Treatment Coordinator at ADS, Tammy works side by side with the doctors on all of our cosmetic cases and treatment consultations.
Tammy lives in Round Rock where she and her family have been for over four years. In her spare time, she keeps busy with her CD company, "Bilingual Beginnings." She has produced a CD for kids called, "Children’s Nursery Rhyme Songs in Spanish," which is doing very well. She also enjoys spending time with her family.
Julie
Every office needs a Kentucky woman involved! Julie grew up in Owensboro, graduated from University of Kentucky (yes, she's an avid basketball fan), and then spent some time in Nashville getting an MBA at Vanderbilt. After 14 years in the insurance industry, most recently as a General Manager for Progressive Insurance, Julie got involved (reluctantly) in Austin Dental Spa. It helped that she's married to Dr. Mark! She's been indispensable in streamlining our business processes and elevating our customer service orientation to "World Class". She's mainly involved in the marketing of ADS, process implementation and business strategy as we move forward. When she can find the "spare time", she's an awesome tennis player, a general sports nut, and she loves spending time with our 3 beautiful boys, Julian, Marcus, and Clark.
Tasha
Tasha was born and raised right here in Austin. She graduated from St. Edward’s University in 2004 and has been working in the dental and medical fields since 2001. With all of her experience, she is a perfect fit for our Accounts Coordinator role at the front desk! Tasha lives in the Lake Travis area with her husband, their two sons, a dog and a cat. In her spare time she enjoys dancing, shopping, the live music scene and just about anything outdoors.
Emily
Emily joined our team in January 2003. She comes from a dentistry family and began working in her father’s dental practice at the age of 15. Emily helps out at the front desk, manages various special projects around the office, and takes care of our event planning and marketing projects. Emily attended the University of Texas and is an avid Longhorn football fan. Football season can be rough at her house since her other half is a die-hard Sooner! She tries to spend as much time as possible on her boat on Lake Travis and also enjoys shopping (what woman doesn’t!), Round Rock Express baseball, and spending time with her dog Noah.
Assistants
Sheila
With more than 21 years of experience in the dental field, Sheila has worked for dentists all over the world including Italy, Germany, and Africa while traveling with the military. At Austin Dental Spa, we are proud to have Sheila assisting our cosmetic dentist and team. She was raised in Austin and attended Texas State Technical College in Waco before joining our team. Now that her daughter is in college pursuing her own aspirations, Sheila is able to pursue her passion for dental assisting by teaching on the weekends. Sheila enjoys singing and playing softball and her favorite quote is "Keep smilin’!"
Aida
Aida is our most "over-qualified" assistant. After practicing dentistry in Mexico for 11 years, she moved to Austin in 2004. We jumped at the chance to hire her! The oldest of six children, she has also worked as a teacher and a translator. She and her daughter, Dalia, love swimming, biking, music, and movies.
Amie
Amie IS back in Austin! She grew up in the Austin area and recently moved back to her home town. She is a graduate of Texas Tech University and is a loud, proud Red Raider! She loves being back with the trees, hills, and fabulous laid back atmosphere. Amie loves being in the sun, playing sports, and laughing. She's got one of those contagious smiles and she cannot wait to share it with you.
Cathy
We are excited about Cathy joining our team and the 15 years of dental assisting experience she has brought with her! Cathy moved to Austin from Louisiana in 1997. Her two children keep her life exciting! Oran, who is 8, just adores his little sister Olivia, who is 2. While Cathy misses the good crawfish back home, she loves the feel of Austin and all that the city has to offer.
Hygienists
Candice
It took us two years of cajoling to woo Candice to our office. She first subbed for us in Austin as an assistant to our cosmetic and sedation dentist while waiting to hear whether she had passed her board exam to become a licensed hygienist. Of course, she aced it, with several years' experience as an assistant before pursuing her interest in helping patients attain sparkling teeth and healthy gums. She loves all water sports, and traveling with her husband Chuck and their son Kyle. They share a house in the country with Colby, their yellow lab.
Tammy
Aloha!! Tammy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii but it didn’t take long for her to make her way to the great state of Texas. She was raised in Yoakum, TX and went on to Wharton to attend dental hygiene school. Tammy has been practicing as a dental hygienist for 14 years and joined the Austin Dental Spa team in January 2004. Tammy and her life partner live in Buda with plenty of room for their pets to roam. They have two dogs, Sandy and Jo-Jo, and a cat named Kiki. In her spare time, Tammy loves hiking, biking, water skiing, and pretty much anything outdoors. She also sings, writes songs, and plays the guitar, the piano, and the trumpet. If you ask nicely, she might serenade you while she is cleaning your teeth!!
Debbie
“World-class dental hygienist” is what Dr. Sweeney calls Debbie (putting up with Mark since 1990 earned her the title). She grew up in Brenham, Texas and graduated from Wharton County Junior College’s Hygiene School. Debbie has a loyal following of several generations of families who wouldn’t let anyone else clean their teeth! She loves her dogs that she rescues, including her “significant other”, James. Debbie enjoys cooking, traveling, walking, watching movies, spending time with family and friends, and making a difference in peoples’ lives.
Massage Therapists
Catherine
Catherine joined the Austin Dental Spa team four years ago, and loves working with our cosmetic dentist, team, and patients. “It’s a really fun environment and the patients look forward to their visits because they know they are going to be greeted by a friendly team member, offered a warm aromatherapy wrap to melt away shoulder tension, and (an Austin Dental Spa favorite) receive a relaxing massage for either their hands or feet during the course of their appointment.” Catherine operates her own business, AustinBodyTalk, when she is away from the Dental Spa. Aside from being a licensed massage therapist, she specializes in state-of-the-art energy medicine called BodyTalk.
Lori
Lori, a native Oklahoman who moved to Austin eight years ago, now calls Texas home. Lori started at Austin Dental Spa four years ago as Dr. Sweeney’s scheduling coordinator. She has since completed massage therapy school and is now a Registered Massage Therapist in our office. Outside of Austin Dental Spa, she dedicates her free time to her landscape design and irrigation business. She is making Austin greener one yard at a time!
Lotus
Lotus started out as a patient in our practice, but quickly seized the opportunity to join our Team as a massage therapist when an opening came available. Born in Amarillo and raised throughout West Texas, Lotus is a Registered Nurse with ICU and surgical experience, but liked the autonomy provided by a career in massage therapy. Her healing hands are further guided by her spiritual journey as she is heavily involved in Avitar, working to achieve Master Status. "Our clients are so diverse. I really like people, and being able to introduce them to a whole new dental experience." She also enjoys Xeroscape gardening, biking, and walking.
