DR. MARK SWEENEY: The most exciting technology for me in dentistry right now is CEREC. It had been in the works for 20 years. It was developed by a dentist in Germany who was convinced that CatCam technology could be utilized in dentistry. It took them 20 years to develop the technology to a point where I was ready to utilize it in my office. But when three years ago they developed it to a point where you could make a full crown in a single appointment, I bought in. I have never regretted owning my CEREC machine. We use it all day, every day. It allows us to take what used to be a two appointment visit that in many cases required anesthetic being injected into the patient two different times and now combine that into a single appointment and in most cases patients are in and out in less than an hour with a brand new crown placed on their tooth that looks every bit as natural as their original tooth did.
